Yen Chow Yen Chow Street hawker market situated at the junction of Yen Chow Street and Lai Chi Kok Road, is a small bazaar constructed with very simple materials, such as wood, nylon and Tin shelter. It is not air conditioned, one will feel really hot in the summer as there is no ventilation.

There are less than 100 stalls inside, each stuffed with different kinds of fabric, ribbon, buttons, etc. The price of the stalls are cheap, and you can really find a lot of style, color and types of textiles there. Some of the stall keepers are tailors too, you can ask them to make decent clothes for you.

In the 70s, many hawkers do their businesses on the street around Sham Shui Po. As the hawking affected the public traffic, the Government relocated them to continue their business in the Bazaar. There were over 100 stalls, as the ownership of the stalls are inherited by family members, as time goes by, some of the stall keepers retired and their descendant may not be willing to take up their business, many of them closed, resulting less and less stalls survived nowadays. That’s why it is one of the disappearing indigenous place in Hong Kong.
The stall keepers are mostly very kind and friendly, when I take pictures they don’t really mind. Some of the stall keepers are old friends, the atmosphere there is warm and lovely.
